Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Lapidary ("Lapidary," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Lapidary iOS application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

We collect only what the App needs to function:

• Account identifiers. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a stable Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address. Apple may provide a private relay email rather than your real address; we store whatever Apple sends. At no time is this information ever sold or released to the public.
• Images you submit. Photographs you upload for reading are stored so the App can process them and so you can revisit your reading history.
• Image metadata. Photographs may contain embedded metadata such as the date and time of capture and GPS location. Where present, we may extract this to record the provenance of a reading (for example, when and where an inscription was photographed) to provide you, the user, with the best possible product.
• Readings and usage records. The transcriptions, translations, and verification results produced for you, along with your credit balance and purchase history.

How Your Images and Text Are Processed

To produce a reading, the App sends your uploaded image and related text to Anthropic, the provider of the Claude AI models that power Lapidary's transcription and translation. This processing is necessary to deliver the core service.

Lapidary accesses these models through the Anthropic API (Application Programming Interface), which is governed by Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service. Under those terms, the content you submit through the API is not used to train Anthropic's AI models. Anthropic may retain and process this content for a limited period to operate the service and to monitor for misuse, and it does not sell your content. Will My Photos or Text Be Used to Train AI?

No and absolutely no. Anthropic distinguishes between its consumer products (such as the Claude.ai chat app, which may use personal-account conversations for training) and its API, which Lapidary uses. API access is covered by the Commercial Terms of Service, under which submitted content is not used for model training. In short: using Lapidary does not feed your images or readings into AI training.

How Your Information is Used

• To authenticate you and maintain your account.
• To process images into readings and store your reading history.
• To manage credits, subscriptions, and purchases.
• To maintain, secure, and improve the App's reliability.
• To respond to your support requests.

Payments and Subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store and managed on our side through RevenueCat, our subscription-infrastructure provider. We do not receive or store your payment card details; Apple handles payment. RevenueCat processes purchase events so we can grant the credits you buy. Data Storage and Retention

Account data and readings are stored on infrastructure operated by our hosting and storage providers Fly.io (iad/US-East), Neon (US East), and Cloudflare R2 located in the United States. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your associated data as described below.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the App. Deleting your account permanently removes your user record, your readings, your stored images, and your credit-transaction and purchase records from our systems. This is irreversible, and any unused credits are forfeited. Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten on our normal backup cycle.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers described above (Apple, Anthropic, RevenueCat, and our hosting/storage providers), strictly to operate the App, and where required by law.

Children

Lapidary is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise the core of these rights directly through in-app account deletion, or by contacting us at the address below.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
