Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Lapidary iOS application (the "App") as created, maintained, and offered by DeveloperD LLC. By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

The Service

Lapidary uses artificial intelligence to produce transcriptions and translations of Latin inscriptions, manuscripts, and related material from images you provide. The App offers two reading modes — Reader and Scholar — and an independent verification step intended to assess the reliability of a reading.

Accuracy & Scholarly Use — Important

Lapidary's readings are produced by AI and may contain errors. Transcriptions, translations, expanded abbreviations, datings, and historical context are best-effort interpretations, not authoritative determinations. Verification grades indicate estimated confidence; they are not guarantees of correctness. You should independently verify any reading against primary sources and qualified expertise before relying on it for academic, professional, financial, legal, or publication purposes. Lapidary is a research aid, not a substitute for scholarly judgment.

Accounts

You sign in using Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and are responsible for maintaining the security of the device and Apple ID you use to access the App. Neither DeveloperD LLC nor the App are responsible for the misuse of your account.

Credits, Subscriptions & Purchases

• Lapidary operates on a credit system. A Reader reading costs 1 credit; a Scholar reading costs 4 credits.
• New users receive a limited number of complimentary credits to try the service.
• A monthly subscription grants a recurring allotment of credits. Unused credits roll over while described as non-expiring in the App.
• Additional credits may be purchased as one-time consumable packs.
• Subscriptions auto-renew at the stated price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage and cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID settings.
• Purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with App Store policy.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the App, including by uploading content you have no right to use, attempting to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service, or using it to violate the laws of any country. You retain ownership of the images you upload; you grant us the limited right to process them solely to provide the service to you.

Intellectual Property

The App, its design, and its underlying software are owned by David Schwind dba DeveloperD LLC, Lapidary, and its licensors. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App. Readings produced for you are yours to use, subject to the accuracy disclaimers above.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any reading will be correct or complete.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lapidary, David Schwind, and DeveloperD LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on a reading. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the state of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Apple Standard EULA

Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula, except where these Terms provide otherwise.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
